smile.gif Hi gang! Just a short story on how Father's day came about. Hope you like it.

In 1910, Sonora Louise Smart Dodd from Spokane, Washington suggested to her minister that a day be set aside for honoring fathers. Her own father ws a Civil War veteran who raised his six children on the family farm after his wife died in childbirth. The Ministerial Association and the Spokane YMCA picked up on the idea, and in 1924 "Father's Day" received the support of President Calvin Coolidge. But it wasn't until 1966 that a presidential proclamation established Father's Day as the 3rd Sunday in June. Although it began as a religious celebration, today it is primarily an occasion for showing appreciation through gift-giving or spending some extra time with your dad.

To all the fathers out there, hope your day is a grand one! HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Thank you for the story on how Father's Day become. I had heard this a long time ago and it was buried deep in my brain, thanx for jogging it loose. This is a hard day for me and my family but I sure got a laugh from my Mom this morning, I threatened to send her to "the home" if she did it again, locked herself out of the house and none of us has spare keys because she has done this sooooooooooo many times. But anyways, when I gave her the threat she said that no, she didn't want to go to the home, I told her that evidently she didn't want to go to her home either!! That made her laugh, but she is in now safe and sound after my baby sister went and broke in giggle.gif And we are getting 6 spare keys made and also installing a key pad!!

Carol, I know this was a hard Father's Day for you.... I had to laugh about the keys thing. Maybe next time you are talking to me on my cell phone and I'm looking for it, you can remind me I'm holding it up to my ear?....

I love you dear,
sushi

I just broke down, he felt so bad and I said not to worry, I have these days. And oh, my Mom, I almost called her Edith Bunker!! But I thought better of that, God love her. Take care.
